Vic Mensa, Reverse [Photo Credit: Roc Nation]Chi-town rapper Vic Mensa, assisted by the ever-confident, ubiquitous, Bay Area rapper G-Eazy, drop a sick banger with “Reverse.”

In 2017, Vic Mensa dropped his debut album, The Autobiography.  Unfortunately for the 25-year old Chicago rapper, the LP arrived with little fanfare.  Regardless, it received positive reviews, and that’s worth something.  He returns in 2018 with a new single, “Reverse,” featuring Bay Area standout G-Eazy.  The results are definitely #winning.

“Reverse” is a banger, plain and simple.  The production is sick, featuring a hard-hitting trap beat, piano loop, and a mean, minor-key, bass synth.   Beyond the backdrop, Vic Mensa is on autopilot from the start.  Following the intro, he blesses the track from the jump introducing a memorable hook.

“Aston Martin, push-button motor

Migos on the ice, anti-sober

Go, oh, oh, don’t get hurt

Turn around and throw it in reverse.”

Sigh, if the hook wasn’t enough, he continues his autopilot status into the first verse, referencing panty-dropping, Saint Laurent, and Lupita Nyong’o among other things.  G-Eazy is naturally right at home on the second verse, opening the line as any f**kboy should.

“Yeah, bend that ass over, throw it backwards

Moonwalk into the pu**y like I’m Michael Jackson

Make a film with your b*tch, turn into an actor

Shimmy out and then she ate a pill after.”

Ugh, typical.  Give him credit – he has an appealing flow and a unique tone of voice, even if he’s comes over cocky to the nth degree.

Final Thoughts

No, Vic Mensa doesn’t save the world with “Reverse.” G-Eazy certainly doesn’t come close with his sexed-up rhymes.  Nonetheless, the two join forces for a surefire banger on “Reverse.”  Great flows and rhymes and awesome production make this a winner by all means.
