He’s back – Tyler, the Creator that is! The underground rapper certainly has a reputation for his raw, unapologetic rhymes.  While TTC is rough around the edges, he also brings a lot to the game, including his creative production work.  After a two-year hiatus, Tyler returns with his fourth studio album, Flower Boy.  Ahead of Flower Boy, he issued two promo singles: “Who Dat Boy” and “911 / Mr. Lonely.”

Expectedly, “Who Dat Boy” is a trip.  That said, it’s an awesome trip through and through. After eerie, malicious production – courtesy of Tyler himself – he jumps right into unapologetic rhymes.  Tyler, the Creator wants to ensure that everybody knows exactly who he is.  Incredibly confident and explicit, the rapper is on autopilot.

“N*gga fresh to death like he got dressed in a coffin / Cons, overalls, and a striped shirt / The boy drip swag like a broken faucet / It’s runnin’, n*gga, I’m runnin’ shit / That cherry be the bomb like he ran in Boston / Won’t stop ‘til the cops surround him / On n*gga jiggy and the other awesome / With his f*ckin’ face blown off, that’s how they found him / it’s young T.”

Yep, unapologetic… understatement. After his verse, Tyler, the Creator handles the hook.  He doesn’t handle the action all by himself.  No, he welcomes A$AP Rocky to the mix.  Rocky goes on to kill the second verse – in a positive way that it.  The rhymes are ferocious, complementing the tone set by TTC early on. On the final verse, Tyler handles most of the duties, but his bud gets in on the action as well.  Chock full of twisted, cocky, and confident rhymes, “Who Dat Boy” concludes fittingly.

Final Thoughts

What more can you say? Tyler, the Creator comes back with a vengeance.  Compared to “F*cking Young / Perfect,” this is a much more electrifying promo single.  Sure, comparing both isn’t completely fair, but the energy of “Who Dat Boy” easily permeates from the jump.  A$AP Rocky only amplifies the intensity.
