Tyga, Dip [Photo Credits: Last Kings Music / EMPIRE]Tyga, assisted by Nicki Minaj, drop an utterly shallow, sexually-charged banger with “Dip.” Both have delivered better performances in the past.

Everybody seems to listen when the word ‘sex’ is mentioned.  Yes, interest is naturally piqued with that universal three-letter word.  Many a musician have used sex to ‘fuel their fire,’ rather their music.  Tyga is one of those who has found everything associated with coitus to be fair game in his raps.  Sometimes, it’s worked brilliantly, while at other times, he’s came off as utterly disgusting and shallow.  On “Dip,” assisted by Nicki Minaj, it seems as if Tyga has ‘been there, and done that’ a few too many times.  No, the sexual formula isn’t broken, but, the rapper definitely isn’t reinventing the wheel or sex itself.

Early on, it’s clear that shallowness is unavoidable.  Tyga proclaims, “First things first, I fuck, get all the money / Bitches love me, keep it hunnid.” The cockiness and overconfidence are eye-roll worthy to say the least.  As he continues through a filthy verse, he’s concerned with ménages, ejaculating, dirty talk, and of course, her booty.  Given such colorful bars, he must make sure on the chorus he asks an important question: “Can you make it dip, make it dip, make it dip?” Ugh. Nicki Minaj isn’t exactly profound in her own right – understatement.  Essentially, like Tyga, she recycles, referencing “bitches my minis” and like her male counterparts, oral sex (“I said we looking for some brain, where the Wizard of Oz”).

Final Thoughts

The thing is, neither musician is finished after one verse…ugh. Tyga drops a third verse all by himself, again focused on his schlong (“Got your bitch wave ridin’ on my dick”), her butt (“Look at your ass, fuck a career / How you make a G-string just disappear”) … all things sexual.  Nick Minaj ‘blesses’ the outro with her own ‘Grade A’ filth, sigh.  If nasty bangers appeal to you, then “Dip” likely will as well.  That said, both these artists have done better than this in the past, and “Dip” definitely isn’t as great as shallow gems like “Rack City” or “Faded” were.
