Troye Sivan, "Easy" [Photo Credit: Capitol]Troye Sivan excels at tackling matters of the heart on “Easy,” the second single from his EP, In a Dream, arriving August 21, 2020.

Are you ready for new Troye Sivan? Well, come August 21, you’ll be giddy because of his brand-new EP, In a Dream.  If you’ve been following the South African/Australian pop standout, he previously dropped the single, “Take Yourself Home”, which appears as the opener on In a Dream. Troye’s back with “Easy,” the second track on the EP.

“I’m still in love, and I say that because / I know how it seems between you and me / It hasn’t been easy darlin’.” Uh-oh! Matters of the heart fuel “Easy” – always a great topic! Here, it seems the relationship has gone south, yet Troye Sivan isn’t ready to let go just yet.  Sivan isn’t the guilty party as it seems his boyfriend has messed up, seriously putting a damper on things.  The chorus, the centerpiece, sums things up awesomely:

“I can’t even look at you
Would you look at the space just next to your feet?
The wood is warping
The lines distorting
This house is on fire, woo!
Burning the ears right out my face
What the hell did we do?
Tell me we’ll make it through.”

Hmm, not sure, particularly given the dramatic, descriptive nature of those lyrics.  On the second verse, Troye continues to express his pain, which is a mix of anger and sadness.  In a sense, he’s a man scorned, which is definitely a gray area when it comes to pop.

Final Thoughts

Lyrically and thematically, “Easy” is pretty sweet.  That’s not the only reason the single is a success.  Troye Sivan delivers a solid vocal performance – not particularly flashy, but well-rounded.  The production (Oscar Görres) is also a selling point.  I’m not sold that “Easy” will change lives, but I am sold it’s another enjoyable, well-rounded addition to Sivan’s catalog.
