“Every guy I want looks something just like you…” On 💿In a Dream (EP), released in 2020, 🎵 “Could cry just thinkin about you” was essentially an interlude, clocking in at just under a minute in duration.  The brief number sounded like it could’ve easily been developed into a compelling full-length song.  As it was, “could cry just thinkin about you” proved telling, even if you wished no heartache/love pain on the handsome 🎙 Troye Sivan.  Fast forward to 2021, we have a shirtless Troye (cover art and music video), and a full-length version of the song – 🎵 “could cry just thinkin about you (Full Version)”.

Troye Sivan wrote “could cry just thinkin about you (Full Version)” alongside 🎼✍ Teo Helm who produces the record.  In its ‘full version,’ the song expands to north of two-and-a-half minutes in duration.  In the original, we get one verse, while the full version finds most of that verse become the chorus, with verses preceding and following respectively.  With added verses, we get gorgeous vocals by Sivan, singing expressively without dare over-singing.  He sells the music with a sense of poise, as well as thoughtful, emotional, and relatable lyrics.  “We wrote a life all by ourselves,” he sings on the first verse, adding, “ Wish I could pput it back on the self.” On the second verse, he closes with “But life’s a blackening wave drifting us further than we are / And now, we’re knee-deep in this mess.”  That final line appears at the beginning of the original, by the way.

Final Thoughts 💭

So, we’ve got eye candy (shirtless Troye) + a full-length version of a song that should’ve been full length to begin with it.  What more can you ask for? Okay, okay, okay, Sivan’s lack of shirt has nothing to do with it, but his giftedness as a musician is worth lauding. “Could cry just thinkin about you (Full Version)” is just what the doctor ordered, even if it is a “summer bummer”.
