Prepare to beam with P-R-I-D-E 🏳️‍🌈! Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 celebrates, embraces, and spotlights songs by LGBTQ musicians or allies.  Here, we provide background and insight into musicians, analyze, plus go gaga over the decadent bops served up.  When songs dictate deeper and more transcendent discussion, we ensure the point is fully articulated.  All styles of music are welcome, whether the songs are classics or brand-new. So, without further ado, in the 56th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 (2025), we highlight “GAY” performed by Trisha Paytas.

Trisha Paytas, Postpartum Popstar (EP)[📷: Trisha Paytas]According to Trisha Paytas (she/her/they/them), “we’re all a little gay.” In the chorus of “GAY,” the fourth and final track from their 2025 EP, Postpartum Popstar, they add, “You wanna eat like a buffet? (Uh) / Then you gotta make it gay.” Gay, yeah! Arguably, “GAY” lacks profundity, but makes it loud and clear that G-A-Y is the W-A-Y.  Paytas co-wrote this dance-pop joint with Jeremy Thurber. Connor Musarra produced it.

Pride Progress FanIn the first verse, Trisha informs us that rainbows, Birkins, streamers, and speedwalking are all gay.  Speedwalking is a gay stereotype. Not a bad one, in my eyes. Moving on to verse two! Trisha, what else is gay? Iced coffee, smoothies, Crop tops, platforms. Men in crop tops = 😮‍💨 😍. Paytas also throws in sashay 💅, West Hollywood (very gay 🏳️‍🌈), etc.  On the bridge, we get variation, though it is still very… wait for it… gay.  “Queer is the reason for the season / Pride is more than just a feeling,” they assert, continuing, “So tell me if you’re with me / And throw your fans high /… We’re all, we-we-we’re all a little gay.” Ultimately, “GAY” in the hands of Trisha Paytas is fun. This is a novel, tongue-in-cheek song made for the gays and allies who don’t mind being fab and sashaying alongside 💅! You betta werk!
