Trippie Redd enlists Young Thug for “YELL OH,” an empty, totally classless banger that relies way too much on sex to fuel its fire.
“Yell, yell, yell, yell / I fuck her, she scream and yell / I fuck her, she scream and yell.” Well, that’s charming and totally refined… said NO ONE EVER. Sigh, Trippie Redd is, um, quite interesting. Sometimes, he delivers (“Topanga” comes to mind specifically), while others, well, not so much. By my estimations, the prolific rapper’s single, “YELL OH,” is, um, quite empty. For this sexed-up, classless single, Redd enlists the ever-ubiquitous Young Thug for the assist. Honestly, when I say that “YELL OH” is all about sex, that’s truly as deep as it goes, and there’s no depth whatsoever. There’s nothing the least bit transcendent about it.
“YELL OH” features respectable production by Pi’erre Bourne, but it’s not definitely not game changing. Basically, Bourne gives Trippie Redd and Young Thug a sick loop to spit over. The problem is, it’s quite repetitive given that the song lasts for four minutes. A banger? Yes, but again, a repetitive one. Furthermore, Redd doesn’t exactly deliver much variety when he raps. Before he even delivers the first verse, he drops the chorus, post-chorus, an interlude, then the chorus and post-chorus AGAIN. With all of those sections being about sex, well, it’s meh at best. I mean, who gets much out of indulgent, trashy lines like, “She suckin’ my dick and I’m all in her jaws / I’m fuckin’ this bitch and I’m all in her drawers (ooh).”
After yet another chorus and post-chorus, Young Thug arrives and brings even more filth. More oral sex references arrive, inciting deserved eye rolling – “I’m chokin’ this bitch and she fuck like a slut.” Ugh. Trippie Redd gets another opportunity, a bridge of sorts, but even as he insults other rappers (“You’s a bitch… You’s a motherfuckin’ poop (bitch), you’s a shit stain…”), again, it’s pretty E-M-P-T-Y.
Final Thoughts
Sigh, Trippie Redd, why couldn’t you deliver another potent banger like “Topanga?” Honestly, that was a real one (A Love Letter 3). “YELL OH,” on the other hand, is a thumbs down. Too repetitive, totally oversexed, and totally lacking any deeper purpose. Even its respectable aspects (the production) grow stale quickly. Not feeling it.

[…] change any lives – there’s no depth – but, it’s enjoyable. Like the Trippie Redd cut, “YELL OH”, I review previously, it’s shallow, but, I’d argue Eazy, Lanez, and Tyga execute slightly […]
