ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet. This week, I picked out SIX notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉, and SEVEN observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Trippie Redd launching at no. 2 on the Billboard 200, while 🎙 Shawn Mendes and 🎙 Tainy earn the hot shot debut on the Hot 100 at no. 48.Billboard 200 📉
💭 Although unable to beat 🎙 Olivia Rodrigo, who returns to no. 1 with 💿 Sour, 🎙 Trippie Redd debuts at no. 2 with 💿 Trip at Knight.
💭 🎙 Lorde earns another top-five debut. 💿 Solar Power debuts respectably at no. 5, but the fact that she didn’t land in the top-three is disappointing. Her previous album, 💿 Melodrama (2017), debuted at no. 1 with more robust numbers.
💭 Late R&B singer 🎙 Aaliyah re-enters the Billboard 200 with 💿 One in a Million, which earns a new peak position at no. 10.
💭 Country musician 🎙 Sturgill Simpson debuts quietly at no. 23 with 💿 The Ballad of Dood & Juanita.
💭 American Idol alum/Christian music artist 🎙 Danny Gokey brings the spirit on the Billboard 200 with 💿 Jesus People, which barely secures a spot in the top 100 (no. 99).
💭 Unfortunately, 🎙 dvsn and 🎙 Ty Dolla $ign didn’t make much buzz with 💿 Cheers to the Best Memories, which bows at an unimpressive no. 139.
Billboard Hot 100 📉
💭 Nothing’s changed atop the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of September 4, 2021. 🎙 The Kid LAROI and 🎙 Justin Bieber hold down no. 1 with 🎵 “Stay” for a fourth week.
💭 🎙 Shawn Mendes and 🎙 Tainy earn the ‘hot shot debut’ on the Hot 100 as 🎵 “Summer of Love” launches at no. 48.
💭 🎙 Trippie Redd launches at no. 49 on the Hot 100 with 🎵 “Matt Hardy 999” assisted by the late 🎙 Juice WRLD.
💭 Apparently, 🎙 Rod Wave has 🎵 “Already Won.” He hasn’t quite won the Hot 100 with his 🎙 Lil Durk assisted joint, which debuts at no. 60.
💭 🎙 Skrillex, 🎙 Justin Bieber, and 🎙 Don Toliver debut at no. 69 with 🎵 “Don’t Go”.
💭 🎙 Kane Brown launches at no. 73 with single, 🎵 “One Mississippi.”
💭 Surprisingly, 🎙 Ed Sheeran sees a modest start for his second single of 2021, 🎵 “Visiting Hours”, which bows at no. 75.
