In the 40th edition of Lit Music That Lifts, we’re uplifted by gospel musician Tremaine Hawkins performing, “Changed.”
Welcome to Lit Music That Lifts (LMTL), or Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 for short! Music Lifts seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity. Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights! So, for the 40th edition of Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 (2022), we highlight 🎵 “Changed” as performed by gospel musician 🎙 Tremaine Hawkins.
“A change, a change has come over me.” Sometimes, we lament change, considering it to be the devil. However, the change that gospel musician 🎙 Tremaine Hawkins sings about on 🎵 “Changed” is utterly celestial. “He washed away all my sins, and he made me whole / He washed me white as snow,” Hawkins sings exuberantly. “Changed” originally appeared on the 🎙Walter Hawkins album, 💿 Love Alive, which was released in 1975. His wife, Tremaine is attributed as his featured guest. “Changed” is by far Tremaine’s most beloved, best-known song, appearing on her 1994 album, 💿 All My Best To You.
For Hawkins, God gave her a mighty, transformational change. Because of his goodness and mercy, she gives all the glory, praise, and honor to him 🙌. “Lord you’ve changed / Changed / You’ve changed my life complete /… And now I sit /… I sit at my Savior’s feet.” Running north of seven-and-a-half minutes in duration, Hawkins ensures she ‘gets her praise on.’ Honestly, isn’t it the least she can do given how good God has been to her? The point is, perhaps not everybody has been changed like Tremaine Hawkins, but it’s hard not to listen to “Changed” and not feel inspired. It’s the perfect spiritual food.
