There’s nothing sexier than a superstar collaboration, right? Right.  With “THE SCOTTS,” the world is introduced to THE SCOTTS, which is a collaboration between Travis Scott and Kid Cudi.  Both rappers are intriguing in their own right, so, together, they must be unstoppable, right? Well, not so fast… “THE SCOTTS” ends up being enjoyable but don’t go so far as to categorize “THE SCOTTS” as the best thing since sliced bread or anything like that.

As to be expected, you can’t have a Travis Scott or Kid Cudi record without a vibe.  Vibe is a key component, and producers Take A Daytrip, Dot Da Genius, and Plain Pat establish that vibe clearly.  This backdrop suits both rappers, particular Scott, whose ad-libs are as ripe as ever.  No worries, the Kid Cudi hums are also prevalent, again, a key component to the ‘vibe.’  This is the biggest selling point of the record from my perspective, considering both thrive off of a particular sound.

Notably, when it comes to assertiveness when rapping, Kid Cudi has more bite, appearing on the second verse.  The contrast to Travis is pretty cool. Travis is more chill Travis while Cudi is more assertive.  Neither raps particularly long, and “THE SCOTTS” doesn’t even reach three minutes when it’s all said and done.  I say that to say, ‘vibe’ comes into play more towards the end, where it is the producers who shine brightest with the colorful instrumental outro.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Travis Scott and Kid Cudi deliver an enjoyable, respectable debut single as THE SCOTTS.  It’s always compelling when a superstar collaboration materializes, and “THE SCOTTS” is no different.  That said, while there will be many ready to state this record is a surefire masterpiece, that’s an overstatement.  It’s nice, but let’s not go so far as to say its transcendent or better than the best released by each artist individually.  Still, a worthwhile listen by all means.
