“Do You Still Love Me?” doesn’t give rock singer/songwriter veteran Ryan Adams a game changer, but does find Adams at his best.
Singer/songwriter Ryan Adams has been around for a minute…several minutes actually. Even so, he’s underrated and under appreciated. Adams earned some much-needed attention a couple of years ago, when he earned a couple of Grammy nominations (he’s earned seven nominations overall). Still, he continues to grind, this time with “Do You Still Love Me?,” a single from his forthcoming album, Prisoner (2017).
“Do You Still Love Me?” opens mysteriously, exhibiting sensitivity, thanks to the organ pad. That sensitivity is short lived, with guitar interjections intensifying the emotion. Eventually, those interjections remain consistently, showcasing familiarity to Ryan Adams’ musical sound. The development of this record is superb – exceptional pacing to say the least.
Little need to expand further upon the theme of the record – the title says it all. Adams begins his vocal performance tenderly. Much like the progression of the song itself, he embraces an assertive, gritty approach. He sounds authentic, as he asks the titular question: “Do you still love me?” All in all, he sounds rock solid.
Final Thoughts
Overall, “Do You Still Love Me?” gives Ryan Adams another fine addition to his collection. The song isn’t game changing, but showcases a talented musician flexing those talents without a hitch. Will Adams grown in popularity with “Do You Still Love Me?” No, but he should definitely maintain his fan base.
