Post Malone, Stoney ยฉ Republic

4 out of 5 starsย

Up-and-coming rapper Post Malone drops one final single, โ€œLeaveโ€ ahead of his highly anticipated debut album, โ€˜Stoney.โ€™

21-year old โ€œWhite Iversonโ€ rapper Post Malone drops his highly anticipated debut album, Stoney (December 9, 2016).ย  Ahead of Stoney, Malone dropped seven singles, including final pre-release joint โ€œLeave.โ€ โ€œLeaveโ€ precedes Stoney with a bang.

The joint features a hard-hitting groove from the jump. This is instantly a catalyst for head-nodding (piano + hard beat). Post Malone provides excellent singing as opposed to rapping. His singing voice is perfectly suited for this particularly production. ย A number of memorable lyrics appear throughout, including:

โ€œBut this b*tch is gonna drive me mad / I said this b*tch is gonna drive me mad.โ€

The aforementioned lyric closes both of the verses.ย  The second verse yields another gem:

โ€œI worship since I met you / I fell down to my knees / and when no one would accept ya / throw myself up on a cross and bleed.โ€

Finally, the hook is catchy and dramatic to the nth degree:

โ€œYou got just what I been looking for / but you canโ€™t bring yourself to say no / and I ainโ€™t never gonna let you got / I kept wishing I would die ooh / the whole plane ride home / and I wish I could / I know I should leave you alone.โ€

Final Thoughts

All in all, โ€œLeaveโ€ is a captivating listen from the jump.ย  Post Malone does a great job of singing here as opposed to rapping. Superb underlying production supports him, only strengthening the song. ย Stoney should be a captivating LP.
