Track Review: ONE OK ROCK, ‘Bedroom Warfare’
Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK delivers a gem with “Bedroom Warfare,” one of three promo singles from their latest album, ‘Ambitions.’
ONE OK ROCK looks to make a bigger splash stateside. Who is ONE OK ROCK? A Japanese rock band, known for their punk-oriented style. The latest album, Ambitions, marks their debut for alt-label, Fueled by Ramen. Ahead of Ambitions, ONE OK ROCK released three singles: “Taking Off,” “Bedroom Warfare,” and “I Was King. “Bedroom Warfare” ends up being a clever gem.
“Bedroom Warfare” opens maliciously at the jump. Interestingly, the record has some hip-hop savvy. Lyrically, it initiates with a bang:
“Keep your enemies close / Your enemies close.”
The highlighted lyric reappears throughout the course of the song.
The record features excellent driving guitar lines, which help to propel it forward. As great as the production and overall sound are, the lyrics are what make “Bedroom Warfare” superb. A catchy chorus goes for the kill:
“Bedroom warfare in the middle of the night / Out of nowhere you come back into my life / And I know in the morning we’ll be / Nothing more than each other’s enemy / Bedroom warfare in the middle of the night.”
In addition to the chorus, notable lyrics also appear on the verses. Both verses feature the lines, “We go hard till the morning light / We battle nightly…” On the second verse, Taka drops a bomb, singing:
“It’s not a fair fight when you’re already naked / Your body language is so persuasive. ”
Essentially on “Bedroom Warfare,” the band tells the tale of two lovers who enjoy a passionate night, but are enemies in the aftermath, aka the next morning. Dramatic. All in all, “Bedroom Warfare” is incredibly appealing and clever.
