4 out of 5 stars

Jack Garratt proves he is a ‘force to be reckoned with’ on his thrilling new single, “Far Cry.” “Far Cry” appears on Garratt’s debut album, Phase.

Jack Garratt isn’t a household name. That needs to change. On single “Far Cry,” the difficult to categorize musician allures. The single appears on Garratt’s quietly released debut album, Phase (February 19, 2016).

“Far Cry” features soulful production.  The single has a retro quality about it. The drum programming embraces old-school as well. It is a mix between classic hip-hop, soul, and house.  One of the best aspects of the production is the clapping percussion coupled with piano.

The falsetto by Garratt is simply amazing. Contrasts featured throughout the course of “Far Cry” make it interesting. The verses are distinct from the chorus and vice versa.

Final Thoughts

There’s little to say about “Far Cry” except for characterizing it for what it is – brilliant. Out of the box compared to everything else, “Far Cry” is superbly produced, exceptionally well-performed song. Jack Garratt showcases immense potential.
