Goth-rock vets AFI return with The Blood Album, their first LP since 2013. โGet Hurtโ was the fourth and final advance single.
Itโs hard to believe that AFI has been around since the 1990s.ย Alas, itโs true. The Cali band returns after a four-year hiatus withย The Blood Album.ย AFI have experienced minor success over the years, earning two platinum-certified albums. Four singles were released ahead of The Blood Album. ย โGet Hurtโ the fourth and final pre-release single from The Blood Album.
โGet Hurtโ features dark, rhythmic guitars. ย Notably, exceptional guitar work characterizes the chorus and bridge sections in particular. ย During the pre-chorus section, the band bestows the listener with harmonized vocals.ย The pre-chorus itself changes with each verse. Even so, both pre-choruses are written similarly: โFollow me down the road / Iโm promising I will be a good boy.โ The chorus is simple โ nothing too deep:
โI canโt let you see, I canโt let you see I canโt let you see me sleeping I canโt let you see, I may have to leave I canโt let you see me sleeping.โ
Like previous single โSnow Cats,โ there are some isolated moments that feel like they need a bit more punch.ย While there is no shame in frontman Davey Havokโs voice being the centerpiece, at times it does sound a bit too exposed.
Final Thoughts
All in all, โGet Hurtโ gives AFI another respectable, enjoyable single ahead of The Blood Album.
