Grammy-nominated pop musician Tori Kelly returns with a new single, “Help Us to Love.” She enlists The HamilTones for the assist.

Tori Kelly introduced herself to the world in 2015 with her debut album, Unbreakable Smile.  For her efforts, she earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist (she lost to Meghan Trainor).  At just 25 years old, things are certainly looking up for Tori.  She returns with a new single, “Help Us to Love,” assisted by The HamilTones, the official background vocalists for Grammy-winner Anthony Hamilton.

From the jump, “Help Us to Love” has a soulful, contemporary gospel vibe.  This is a great look for Tori Kelly.  Throughout the early part of the record, she delivers beautiful, controlled vocals, beginning with introductory hums.  She never over-sings, packing a punch without doing too much. She amps up the intensity beginning on the dynamic bridge section.  Even exhibiting the grit and cracks vocally, she is firmly in command without going over the edge. The HamilTones help to fuel her fire with stunning vocal harmonies. While Kelly is the star, this awesome performance wouldn’t have been as effective without the energetic backing vocals. They truly solidify the contemporary Christian/gospel element.

Final Thoughts

Tori Kelly drops a gem with “Help Us to Love.” This is a thoughtful, well-performed record through and through.  No, neither Kelly or The HamilTones say anything that hasn’t been said many times before.  Even so, the message of love – God’s love – never grows tired.
