After compelling on her 2018 gospel album, Hiding Place, Grammy-nominated singer Tori Kelly returns to pop with a thoughtful new single, “Change Your Mind.”

In 2018, Grammy-nominated singer Tori Kelly went in a different direction – Contemporary Christian Music (Hiding Place).  It wasn’t completely far-fetched as Kelly has made it clear that she’s a Christian, but it was a departure following her 2015 debut pop album, Unbreakable Smile.  Regardless of the direction that Kelly decides to go next, she’s back with a new pop single, “Change Your Mind,” that should please her entire fanbase.

The biggest selling point and takeaway from “Change Your Mind” is how elite Tori Kelly is in the vocal department.  This girl can literally sing anything, and it could end up being a hit.  Here, she’s accompanied with guitars, piano, a subtle groove, and backing vocals, and she’s makes nothing short of magic.  On the chorus, she’s turned up – in the most refined and soulful way that is.

“No one ever said it was easy

And I love him, you gotta believe me

No, it don’t seem right

But I’ll change your mind, mind

Trust in me, I’ma need your blessing

Oh, I love him, I’m confessing

If it takes my life, I’ma change your mind.”

Thematically, “Change Your Mind” encompasses true love and skepticism. The skepticism seems to come from the father, who typically gives the blessing for a daughter to be married.  Tori essentially tells her father, she’ll prove that he’s wrong about her husband, and that she loves him with all her heart.

Final Thoughts 

Tori Kelly continues to be a force, whether it’s the CCM/gospel of “Help Us to Love” or the high-flying vocals and thoughtful, personal message of “Change Your Mind.”  Her pipes are definitely God-given, and everything about this record is well-rounded – sound as albeit.  For fans that might have felt less enthusiastic about her CCM move, surely Kelly will “change your mind” with this gem.
