Rising Australian pop artist Tones and I delivers a fun, relatable single with “Ur So F**kInG Cool” that’s def ‘pretty f**kInG cool.’
Any opportunity to use the f-bomb is pretty “f**kInG cool” … Hmm, did I really just write that? Anyways, Tones and I is an Australia pop artist that has been building buzz in the United States. The breakthrough for Toni Watson was the 2019 hit “Dance Monkey”, which at publication time has nearly 1.6 billion plays on Spotify and the music video has more than 1 billion plays on YouTube.
Yeah, that’s also – wait for it – ‘pretty f**kInG cool.’ Okay, so why all the f-bombs, even in censored form you ask? Well Watson’s new single puts the f-word right in our face, albeit it censored on “Ur So F**kInG Cool.” All in all, the results are… ‘pretty f**kInG cool.’ Cursing – so therapeutic!
“Ur So F**kInG Cool” has plenty of pros. The production (Watson and Steve Mac) is bright, enthusiastic, and inviting. The backdrop consists primarily of keyboards (synths) and drum programming. This works out well for Tones and I, who paints upon the alluring instrumental campus with her distinct, cutting vocals. I love the attitude and expression that she brings to this cut, which clocks in pretty tightly at under three minutes. So, if you’re keeping score, “Ur So F**kInG Cool” thrives in the production and vocal department.
As far as songwriting, the chorus is quite fun, particularly since a censored f-bomb becomes the real deal, sigh – unless you’re a listener that likes your censor-shit (Oops – sorry for cursing!). Besides the bombs, Tones and I drops legit bombs about shallow people, hence the sarcastic vibe of the title. Her honesty and real talk are highly appreciated:
“Walk into a party, feelin’ out of place Everyone’s too cool, everyone’s too fake I try to start a conversation, but I can’t seem to relate.”
Final Thoughts
Although I probably need to wash my mouth out with soap after this review, Tones and I delivers a fun, relatable single with “Ur So F**kInG Cool.” I wouldn’t call this a game changer mind you, but she does a good job of highlighting how people can be so superficial – shallow to the nth degree. “Ur So F**kInG Cool” excels in production, vocals, and being relatable thematically.
