Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, The Rest of Our Life © Sony NashvilleAhead of a highly anticipated duets album, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill release an excellent promo single, “Speak to a Girl.”

For the longest time, it was beginning to look like we’d never hear another Faith Hill album.  The last proper studio album by the country superstar came in 2005 (Fireflies), though she did release a Christmas album (Joy to the World) in 2008.  Well, 2017 is the year.  No, Hill isn’t releasing a solo album, but she is dropping a collaborative album with her beau, Tim McGraw.  The first slice of the pie arrives via single, “Speak to a Girl.” Upon its arrival, “Speak to a Girl” was instantly a big deal.

On “Speak,” Faith Hill gets first blood.  This is a smart move, given her extended absence in the biz relative to her hubby. This is something of a reintroduction. Vocally, she sounds strong, if older, naturally. Regardless, she takes the more developing role, setting up grander things for the record.

Tim McGraw follows, with a more potent, energetic performance. This is another great choice because it amplifies the intensity level where it should be at the second verse of a song. This also provides momentum for both artists to build upon their first collaborative chorus:

“‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman / That’s how you speak to a girl / That’s how you get with a lady who’s worth more than / Anything in your whole world / You better respect your Mama / Respect the hell out of her / ‘Cause that’s how you talk to a woman / And that’s how you speak to a girl.”

By the bridge, Hill has hit her stride, making us all reminisce to the glory days, sigh.

Final Thoughts

After listening to “Speak to a Girl,” who wouldn’t want to “respect the hell out of her?” Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have something special on deck with their duets album.  “Speak to a Girl” is just the first slice of the pie.  The whole pie should be DELISH!
