Thomas Atlas Releases The Funk
Contributed by George James
T
homas Atlas stuns with his debut self-titled album, and it brings ten tracks full of zesty hooks and contagious melodies. It is the album that everybody is talking about, and it is evident to see why.βGot This Feelingβ instantly showcases what Thomas is all about with his upbeat grooves rising to the top. He unleashes a unique and captivating vocal while taking hints from some of the greats in the funk and soul realm.
βHalfway To The Moonβ has a strong summer vibe, and it brings a new edge to the forefront of the genre, with each member of the group rising to the occasion; it is obvious they all enjoyed themselves while crafting this one.
βGive To Meβ brings a new structure to the record, and the drums kick off this piece before the sax, it is an aphrodisiac release, and the sensual feel among the rhythm is challenging to resist.
The bass sounds delightful on βParadise Circusβ, and the bass monster gets the focus in the prologue. Thomas soon returns, though, and he compels yet again with a vocal that encourages us all to shake the hip.
βGroove 101β has a reggae feel, and it provides something new which the other tracks didnβt. It is enjoyable with an upbeat rhythm that is memorable, and the trumpet player gets his time to shine.
The album nears close with βThatβs The Way It Isβ, but Thomas unleashes the sentimental flavour with βHealerβ leaving us pining for more and reaching for the replay button.
Overall, Thomasβ self-titled album is a cocktail of all things fabulous. It boasts a contemporary funk vibe while also delving deep with a nostalgic influence. Also, as for a debut album, this one has to be up there with the most compelling.
