Jared Leto and Thirty Second to Mars release “Rescue Me,” the fourth advance single from their highly-anticipated 2018 album, ‘AMERICA.’
Academy-Award-winning actor/musician Jared Leto and his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars are back. AMERICAarrives on April 6, 2018. While there’s nothing controversial about the title, the album artwork is a sight to behold, featuring “six popular sex positions as reported by AskMen.” Following singles “Walk on Water,” “Dangerous Night” and “One Track Mind”, featuring A$AP Rocky, they drop what’s presumed to be the final advance single, “Rescue Me.”
The main attraction of “Rescue Me” is frontman Jared Leto. Leto delivers assertive and gritty lead vocals. His authenticity is indisputable – he remains a compelling frontman, whatever you think of the band itself. Leto didn’t require a strong performance on “Rescue Me” to prove his worth – he did that back in 2005 with “The Kill (Bury Me).” Moving on.
Beyond Leto himself, the production draws a lot of attention on this record. There are plenty of rock cues, particularly on the verses. With rock waning to some extent, or at least assimilating to pop more, having some rock is win. That said, the chorus can be characterized by its ample EDM cues. There are some electronic elements throughout, but they show up most pronouncedly during the chorus. Post-chorus, the signature dropcomes into play. These things considered, “Rescue Me” is ultimately more pop-oriented as opposed to alternative rock. But then again, aren’t the lines of alternative anything blurred to an extent?
Final Thoughts
How does “Rescue Me” stack up? This is an energetic and enjoyable record, amplified by its frontman and its bombastic production. “Rescue Me” likely won’t change any lives, because it doesn’t cover any new ground. Nonetheless, as aforementioned, it’s enjoyable.
