The Weeknd & Ariana Grande, Save Your Tears (Remix) | Track Review 🎵

Grammy-winning R&B superstar The Weeknd taps Grammy-winning pop superstar for the remix of his After Hours hit, “Save Your Tears.”

“Save your tears for another day.” 🏆 Grammy-winning R&B standout 🎙 The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) was royally snubbed by the Grammys for his 2020 album, 💿 After Hours, his best album to date. Everyone is well aware of this.  Nonetheless, that doesn’t take away from the greatness of the album, including the single, 🎵 “Save Your Tears”.  What could further amplify the greatness? A remix, “Save Your Tears (Remix)”, featuring one of Tesfaye’s favorite duet partners, 🏆 Grammy-winning pop superstar, 🎙 Ariana Grande.  As to be expected, the results are fire.

In its remixed form, the overall sound and vibe are preserved. “Save Your Tears” remains firmly planted in the 80s, with both Tesfaye and Grande embracing synthpop. Of course, in addition to The Weekend producing, they owe a great deal to 🎛 Max Martin and 🎛 Oscar Holter. As we’ve previously heard, The Weeknd continues to shine, singing the first verse, refrain, pre-chorus, and chorus.  The chorus – excerpted at the top of this review – is simple but ultimately memorable and definitely tuneful. Where we get contrast on “Save Your Tears (Remix)” is the second verse, which is not only performed by Ariana Grande, but turns out to be a totally new verse.

“Met you once under a Pisces moon
I kept my distance ‘cause I know that you
Don’t like when I’m with nobody else
I couldn’t help it, I put you through hell.”

She sounds exceptional – as refined as ever.  Beyond the verse, she performs a refrain and pre-chorus of her own (directed toward a male, of course), before performing the chorus.  From there, we get collaboration between both, repeating the refrain, chorus, and the outro, an extension of the chorus.

Final Thoughts 💭 

No, a remix for “Save Your Tears” wasn’t necessary.  That said, listening to “Save Your Tears (Remix),” this is the collaboration – another one between The Weeknd & Ari – that we didn’t realize we needed in our lives! Fire vocals in addition to all the things that made the original great make this a surefire bop.
