The Summer Continues to Belong to Drake (Chart Happenings #4) [Photo Credits: Cash Money, Epic, Republic]In a week where not much is going down on the Billboard 200 or the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, Drake continues to ‘own the summer.’

As to why I chose a rather boring chart week to return with Chart Happenings – Chart Happenings #4 to be exact – I don’t know.  The big headline is Drake, period.  There some Wiz Khalifa and Ariana Grande sprinkled in, but the “6God” is literally the God of the Billboard charts.  Here are just four chart takeaways worth noting on the latest, incredibly brief edition of Chart Happenings.

Drake, Scorpion [Photo Credit: Cash Money]1. Drake continues his dominance on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 Charts. On the Billboard 200, Scorpion spends its third consecutive week at no. 1.  According to Keith Caulfield, the set still moved 260,000 units of the LP.  Impressive.  On the Hot 100, “Kiki do you love me?” aka “In My Feelings” spends a second consecutive week at no. 1.

Wiz Khalifa, Rolling Papers 2 [Photo Credit: Atlantic]2. Naturally, because Drake is the king of everything, Wiz Khalifa had to settle for the runner-up spot on the Billboard 200.  Rolling Papers 2 didn’t come anywhere close to having the numbers to unseat Drake.  80,000 units vs. 260,000? Wasn’t happening Wiz, wasn’t happening.  Notably, the next highest debuting album behind Rolling Papers 2 was the soundtrack Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again, which launched at no. 20…

Future, Beast Mode 2 [Photo Credit: Epic]3. After the first week, many albums experiences sizable declines.  Future sees Beast Mode 2 slip from no. 3 to no. 11 in its second week.  Meek Mill slides from no. 9 to no. 41 with his Legends of the Summer (EP).  Ouch! In week three, Gorillaz sees The Now Now dip 44 spots from no. 33 to no. 77.  Florence + The Machine has a similar decline as High as Hope plummets from no. 35 to no. 79, also just three weeks in.

Ariana Grande, Sweetener [Photo Credit: Republic]4. Ariana Grande makes a big splash on the Hot 100 as “God is a Woman” debuts impressively at no. 11.  As for “the light is coming”, well, it’s nowhere to be found.  But “No Tears Left to Cry” sits at no. 8 after peaking at no. 3.
