The Secret Radio, Swimming Pool On Mars | Track Review

ith their new single, “Swimming Pool On Mars,” indie rockers from NY, The Secret Radio stand out with vigour! Taken from their album “Shortwave”, this song is a genre-blurring voyage highlighting the creative energy and auditory ambition of the ensemble who is led by Damian Fowler.

From the start, “Swimming Pool On Mars” creates a compelling spell with dramatic, cinematic, and highly intriguing quality. The way the band have arranged the elements creates a theatrical quality that invites you into an almost Bowie-esque off-world story. While synths and layered instrumentation whirl in orbit developing to a lush and immersive sound, steady drumming and clean guitar riffs establish a firm backbone.

Frontman Damian Fowler who is originally from the UK weaves poetic lyrics, providing a vocal performance that seems both raw and refined. His voice is the ideal guide throughout this trip—somewhere between the concrete and the abstract, grounded but otherworldly.

With a cast of musicians including Bebbo (guitar), Asen Doykin (synths/co-producer), JungSang Yoo (bass), and Tom Cottone (drums), the production credits for the song are similarly strong. Together, these artists provide a varied dimension to the project by combining dream-pop textures, lyrical introspection, indie rock with orchestral embellishments.
