Veteran rock collective The Offspring shine on their colorful, sex-deprived single, “We Never Have Sex Anymore.”
“We never have sex anymore / We never roll around on the floor like we did so long ago.” Hmm, intimacy issues, 🎙 The Offspring? Perhaps. The veteran band’s single, 🎵 “We Never Have Sex Anymore,” appearing on their 2021 album, 💿 Let the Bad Times Roll, continues with more things that have changed within the relationship beyond the matters of the bedroom: “You never yell at me anymore / You never want to even the score like you did so long ago / But you’re still with me, so I guess I’m not complaining / And you always leave my dinner on the stove.”
The character portrayed by 🎙 Dexter Holland and his wife are in a rut. It’s not that they don’t love and care for each other, but even the good and bad times have sort of just become neutral. “Baby please! / If you won’t love me, will you hate me?” Holland sings, continuing, “If you won’t violate me, well, will you just at least aggravate me?” He’s not seeking out abuse but rather desires more oomph, life, and within the relationship, like they once had. Of course, as couples get older, one of the first things that falls by the wayside is sex, hence why The Offspring key-in on this.
“We used to do it constantly We used to have a ball We use to do it everywhere We never do it at all.”
Besides he fun, sexless lyrics, the sound of the record is pretty rad, with colorful sounds courtesy of horns and piano in addition to standard rock instrumentation.
Final Thoughts 💭
Honestly, Dexter Holland and The Offspring ‘kick ass and take names’ on “We Never Have Sex Anymore.” No, being sexless when you want to have sex is no fun, but this record truly is sweet music to the ears. Holland sounds fantastic after all these years, the music is quite intriguing, and the songwriting is fun while also being quite realistic. Lots to dig about this one!
