New Jersey upstarts The Nectars shine on ‘short, but sweet’ record “I Want It,” a promo single from their forthcoming debut album, ‘Sci-Fi Television.’
“Thrashy Girl Fronted Punks.” That’s one way to characterizeThe Nectars, a rising band hailing from New Jersey. The band features the dynamicJessica Kenny (lead vocals), Mike Montalbano (drums/vocals), Jon Paul (bass), and Michael Baron (guitar). Some of the artists and bands that they enjoy include Garbage, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, and Bruce Springsteen. Safe to say, the band has excellent taste. Also, safe to say, this band is chocked-full of personality. Here’s the proof.
“The Nectars are like the first you have sex. It’s fast, it’s loud, it’s over too soon, and you’re left desperately wanting more. Also, the lead singer is an alien.”
“I Want It” serves as a single from their highly-anticipated debut album, Sci-Fi Television, which arrives May 25, 2018. The band considers their debut to be “their search for inner peace and an attempt to escape from some of the evils that have taken center-stage in the world.”
Focusing on the single at hand, “I Want It” is a short and sweet record, clocking in at under two minutes. The emphasis is on the ‘sweet’ as The Nectars serve up some biting, hard rocking guitars. That’s only part of the extent of the bite. Lead singer Jessica Kenny is unapologetic to the nth degree. She delivers aggressive, feisty, and playful vocals. Her performances bites much like the aforementioned guitars, incorporating f-bombs, growls, and grit. The energy is stellar.
Final Thoughts
The Nectars are clearly on an upward trajectory. “I Want It” may not be profound, at least where length is concerned, but the attitude and energy of this band is absolutely crazy. We wouldn’t have it any other way. To quote The Nectars, “I Want It.”
