Grammy-nominated Australian pop artist The Kid LAROI brings ample swagger to the short but sweet single, “SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW.”
“She wanna be in love (Ayy, ayy, ayy) / She need to let it go (Ayy, ayy, ayy) / She know? I got a girl, but she say, ‘She don’t need to know’ (Ayy, ayy, ayy).” My, my, my, ‘The Kid’ has grown up. 22 years old, as of the publication date! The Kid LAROI (Charlton Howard) has evolved as an artist, landing stylistically on R&B-infused pop. He drops another vibe-laden single, “SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW”, set to appear on his sophomore album, Watch This!. Howard penned “SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW” with Jon Bellion, Pete Nappi, Antonio Zito, and Xplicit. Bellion, Nappi, Zito, Rogét Chahayed, and Tenroc produced it.
“SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW” sounds bright, fun, and youthful, set in a major key. The Kid LAROI brings ample swagger to the track. “No, I can’t have you out here fuckin’ up the motion,” he sings in the first verse, and continues, “She on her knees, but she prayin’ to the Lord.” Oh, really? In the second verse, he asserts, “My baby told her how I get her right in that mode,” and continues, “How she don’t got a budget, she get right when she wants / How quick I put her in and get her right out them clothes.” D-d-damn! The melodic lines are quick and rhythmic. For the most part, Howard sings with ease, barely breaking a sweat – he has a cool but potent delivery. When he ascends higher, he sings with more oomph. With so many cooks in the kitchen writing and producing, it is no surprise that the backdrop is sweet. The accompaniment is R&B-styled (keys, pads, synths, percussive drum programming), somewhat reminiscent of the R&B of the 00s. Catchy, fun, memorable, and tuneful, The Kid LAROI shines on the two-and-a-half-minute “SHE DON’T NEED TO KNOW”. Also, ‘The Kid’ looks grown, sans shirt, on the cover art… just an observation!
