The Kid LAROI Ascends to No. 1 | Scanning the Charts

Scanning the Charts (8/4/21):  The Kid LAROI ascends to no. 1 on the Billboard 200, while Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow debut at no. 2 on the Hot 100.

ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out SIX notable observations from the Billboard 200 ,  and FIVE observations from the Billboard Hot 100 , with The Kid LAROI ascending to no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with F*ck Love.

Billboard 200  

The Kid LAROI sees his gold-certified mixtape, F*ck Love, ascend from no. 26 to no. 1.  F*ck Love, in its original form was released in 2020.  Since, the teen rapper/singer has expanded on the mixtape, with the most robust version being F*ck Love 3+: OVER YOU. 

After topping the charts last week, Pop Smoke sees Faith slide from no. 1 to no. 5.  John Mayer, who saw Sob Rock debut last week at no. 2, slides to no. 20. 

In addition to the rise of The Kid LAROI, two other artists see substantial gains in the top 10.  EST Gee ascends from no. 65 to no. 7 following the first full week of his latest release, Bigger Than Life or Death.  Taylor Swift sees folklore rise from no. 56 to no 9 in its 53^rd week. 

There are three debuts in the top 20 of the Billboard 200.  The highest debut on this week’s chart arrives courtesy of Yung Bleu with Moon Boy at no. 12.  Leon Bridges gets into the mix at no. 17 with Gold-Diggers Sound.  Paul McCartney lands at no. 19 with McCartney III Imagined.

After debuting at no. 17 last week, Clairo sees her sophomore album, Sling, free fall to no. 178.

Billboard Hot 100  

BTS spends a ninth week at no. 1 with their hit single, “Butter”.

Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow were unable to stop BTS’ reign.  “INDUSTRY BABY” debuts at no. 2 on the Hot 100. 

Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood earn the second-highest debut on the Hot 100 with “If I Didn’t Love You,” which launches at no. 15.

The Kid LAROI debuts at no. 41 with “Not Sober” featuring Polo G and Stunna Gambino. The Kid also sees “Still Chose You” enter the charts for the first time at no. 100 (featuring Mustard).

Camila Cabello bows at no. 42 with “Don’t Go Yet.”
