“Enough of this singing, let’s make love.” Oh, snap! The 🏆 Grammy-winning, legendary soul collective, 🎙 The Isley Brothers, reinvented themselves in 1983 with 🎵 “Between the Sheets”. “Between the Sheets” served as the title track for their 💿 1983 LP as well, fittingly.  Although the beloved, nearly six-minute classic peaked at no. 3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-hop Songs chart, surprisingly, it didn’t impact the pop charts.  Regardless, it’s considered one of the greatest hits by 🎙 Ronald Isley and company.  Also, it’s perfect for After Dark 🕛 🌃 considering how steamy it sounds – ooh-la-la!

“I want to keep you here / Laying next to me / Sharing our love between the sheets,” Ron Isley sings in the first verse of this sensual, near-six-minute-long joint.  Isley keeps it steamy in the second verse, with his iconic pipes, singing, “Oh, baby girl just cling to me and let your mind be free / While making love between the sheets,” later adding, “Oh darling, just taste my love / Oh, you taste so sweet.” In between those verses, Ron asserts in the chorus, in suave fashion against that lush, quiet storm backdrop, “Ooh, baby, baby / I feel your love surrounding me.”  Closer to the end of “Between the Sheets,” there’s a bridge where, well, this lady makes ‘Mr. Biggs’ feel a certain type of way: “Oh, I like the way you receive me / Girl, I love the way you release me / I’m coming, coming on strong / In between the sheets.” It’s self-explanatory, right? Right.

Final Thoughts 💭

All told, The Isley Brothers keep it sexy AF on 🎵 “Between the Sheets”.  Ronald Isley is the motor, delivering sex with incredible finesse without being schmaltzy or the least bit inauthentic.   This is a record that’s a far cry from The Isley Brothers’ earlier hits though Ron would continue to ride this wave well into the 21^st century.  It’s a classic that deserved to chart on the Billboard Hot 100!
