The Farm: 3BOPS Nr. 3 [📷: Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype, Pixabay, Unsplash]On this edition of 3BOPS, we select three awesome songs that are associated with the FARM in some form or fashion.

On 3BOPS, we are totally dedicated to keeping things L-I-T-E! Similar to 5ive Songs, there’s a topic and a short blurb, only with THREE songs instead of FIVE.  Yes, it’s a playlist, but it’s a miniature playlist that shouldn’t take much time to consume.  On this edition of 3BOPS, we select three awesome songs that are associated with the FARM in some form or fashion.

1. Thomas Rhett, “That Old Truck”

💿 Center Point Road • 🏷 Big Machine • 🗓 2019

Thomas Rhett, Center Point Road [📷: Big Machine]“She heard me laugh, heard me cry / Heard me pray sometimes.” If you are wondering who heard 🏆 Grammy-nominated country singer 🎙 Thomas Rhett cry, it was 🎵 “That Old Truck”, a highlight from his 2019 album, 💿 Center Point Road. Country musicians are no strangers to singing and reminiscing about their vehicles (🎵 “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” comes to mind).  The old truck Rhett references represents a rite of passage for him. Many of the lyrics of “That Old Truck” are familiar, given the fact that singing about cars, trucks, and tractors have been done a countless number of times.  On the first verse, Rhett describes the experience with ‘her’ – “Up and down the streets of a no-name town / Me and her with the windows down / 35s rolling on the ground / Loving every minute.” By the end of the second verse, he sings about “Cussing out all that grass I mowed / Just saving up to fix her.” The centerpiece of the record is the sentimental chorus.  The association with the farm? Well, farmers often drive trucks… 🤷

2. Tyler, the Creator, “Pigs”

💿 Wolf • 🏷 Odd Future • 🗓 2013

Tyler, the Creator, Wolf [📷: XL]“Geek…stupid loser, find a rope to hang… / I sit in my room and I listen to tunes, I’m amused alone / Cause none of the cool kids would let me join a team.” 🎙 Tyler, the Creator characterizes the picture of a social outcast bluntly. In a tweet about the song 🎵 “Pigs” 🐖 from his 2013 album, 💿 Wolf, he asserts that Columbine perpetrators Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold inspired “Pigs.” The retribution that Tyler, playing the role of perpetrator, is incredibly chilling.  He asserts at the end of the first verse, “…When I share these feelings finally, they gon’ fucking care.” The full-on evil is revealed, beginning on the hook as he asserts, he’ll “Gather all the bullies, crush them motherfuckers…” The second verse finds him threatening his bullies (“…I’mma keep them motherfuckers there and make sure they pass”), while on the third verse, he dispels the myth that music wasn’t the catalyzing source of the massacre (“I just really wanted somebody to come pay me attention / But nobody would listen…”). The association with the farm? PIGS 🐖, of course (in name only).

3. Glen Campbell, “Arkansas Farmboy”

💿 Adiós • 🏷 Universal Music • 🗓 2017

Glen Campbell, Adiós [📷: Universal Music]💿 Adiós marked the final studio album by the late, great 🎙 Glen Campbell.  Four songs into this massive list, we finally have a song that truly has some connection to the state it represents.  🎵 “Arkansas Farmboy.”  The backstory of the song is interesting; it was inspired by a story Campbell told songwriter 🎙 Carl Jackson about his grandpa teaching him to play a song on a five-dollar guitar. Campbell, of course, grew up poor on a farm in Arkansas (there’s the best association to the farm of them all).
