Ah, bring on Midnight Heat πŸ•› πŸ”₯! Wait – it is not usually hot at midnight! Well, it is steaming hot πŸ₯΅ at midnight when it comes to this naughty, innuendo, and sex-laden column featuring songs intended for nighttime. These risquΓ©, unapologetic records often raise eyebrows and temperature alike. In the 10th edition of Midnight Heat (2025), we explore the naughty, sexy vibes behind, β€œSex” by The Dare.

The Dare, The Sex EP [πŸ“·: The Dare Is A Business / Republic]β€œSex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex.” That perfectly describes the song β€œSex” by The Dare (Harrison Smith). The word β€˜sex’ is uttered repeatedly.  That, my friends, is a gargantuan understatement! β€œSex” is the second track from The Dare’s The Sex EP, released in 2023. The provocative cover art for the EP earned Smith backlash.  Some stated Smith was promoting pedophilia – yikes! Interestingly, ”Sex” didn’t appear on the 2024 full-length album What’s Wrong With New York?.  Smith and Nick Sylvester composed and produced β€œSex” in all its indie sleaziness.

Midnight Heat (2025) [πŸ“·: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Natan from Pexels; Aristal Branson from Pixabay]β€œSex” features sick production work with its prominent, dizzying, rhythmic synths and hard-hitting beat.  The groove is everything. The talk-singing is highly effective, showing off ample personality.  The lyrics are shallow and sexual, yet don’t enter NSFW territory. β€œSex, I want to turn you on, and then I want you gone / You might even hate me a little bit,” Smith asserts in the first verse, continuing, β€œSex, I want to call your mom and tell her you’re the bomb / I might even see if she’s into it.” Wow! In the second verse, he questions how much sex he has had, accurately adding, β€œSex, it’s what I’m thinking of, some people call it β€˜love’ / I might even finish too quick.” In the chorus, he claims, β€œSex, to her, it’s just a bad word / You don’t understand, but you don’t need to do it.” Hmm, that’s a male response. Anyways,  β€œSex” is a song that should be taken with a grain of salt.  The cards are revealed early on, and no deep analysis is necessary. It’s entertaining, silly, and sexed-up.
