The Blancos, Know My Name © RepublicAlternative duo The Blancos – Cory Hueston and Jayson Robbins – shine on their energetic, heavy-hitting, major-label debut single, “Know my Name.”

Perhaps their artist bio characterizes rising, alternative duo The Blancos best: “The best way to describe their music is sex, drugs, and 808s.” The duo is comprised of Cory Hueston and Jayson Robbins, two musicians who have already experienced the ups and downs of the ‘rock star’ life.  Essentially, The Blancos are trying to make an artistic statement, meaning they don’t care who they offend.  According to Cory Hueston, “We’re in your face…we don’t give a fuck.” Hueston goes on to characterize their major label debut single “Know My Name”: “It’s about self-confidence, self-belief, and going through the struggle.”

“Know My Name” commences with unsettling production on the intro.  This sound foreshadows the bold, ‘in-your-face’ sentiment that occurs throughout the record. That’s The Blancos’ mantra, right? Eventually, “Know My Name” settles into a record with hardnosed, heavy, minor-key production.  A hard-hitting drum groove anchors down the hellish sound and vibe. The production work is comprised of gritty organ, pitch-shifted vocals, and dark, but enthusiastic backing vocals. The use of distortion on the lead vocals only amplifies the attitude and passion. Notably, there’s contrast on the bridge section. It’s still dark mind you, but a bit lighter than the robust chorus.

Final Thoughts

New and rising artists must make a statement.  The Blancos successfully make a statement with “Know My Name.” No, most folks don’t know their name yet, but “Know My Name” is definitely a hell of an introduction.
