Country sibling trio The Band Perry return with enjoyable and uplifting single, āComeback Kid.ā āComeback Kidā is the promo single for their upcoming third LP.Ā Ā
After a three-year hiatus, The Band Perry returns with āComeback Kid,ā a single set to appear on their forthcoming, as of yet untitled album.Ā When the album does arrive, it will mark the trioās third effort.Ā āComeback Kidā has a unique sound about it.Ā While there are light country cues, thereās an abundance of pop cues.Ā Ā
The production is quite light initially. This isnāt unusual for The Band Perry, who have a number of songs that thrive on subtlety. While subtlety factors into the script, the production has some clear-cut highlights, the percussion, clearly not indigenous to country music.Ā Naturally, on the chorus, the production is fuller; more elaborate.Ā āComeback Kidā is quite modern in sound. Itās only a percentage countryĀ but doesnāt completely turn its back.
Kimberly Perry delivers radiant, smooth lead vocals, remaining consistent.Ā Like Kimberly, thereās an excellent vocal blend by the siblings on the refrain, backing her up. This heavenly blend carries over into the second verse. Ā Reiterating, the chorus is larger in scope and quite inspirational and uplifting.Ā Ā
āCause Imma comeback, Imma comeback kid / Donāt know why bad things happened, but they did / I donāt think I deserve the hurt I get, but Iām made for it / itās not the end, no, itās not the end / Imma a comeback kidā¦ā
In addition to the chorus, a powerful bridge further amplifies the energy.Ā One particular standout is the extension of Kimberlyās range.Ā She truly gives her all vocally.
Final Thoughts
All in all, āComeback Kidā is unique ā Ā definitely different from other country songs on the radio. Clearly, the record is more pop than notĀ but doesnāt denounce country. The message is excellent, in line with a number of positive, uplifting records. Finally, Kimberlyās singing is exceptional, with brothers Reid and Neil backing her splendidly.
