Taylor Swift doesn’t miss a beat on “You All Over Me,” featuring Maren Morris, the second single from her Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
Prolific. That’s the best way to describe 🎙 Taylor Swift, whose career is continues to be incredibly successful and quite impressive. 💿 Folklore put her in rare company, earning her a third win for the 🏆 Grammy of Album of the Year. In 2021, she releases the first of multiple re-recordings of her past classics, 💿 Fearless (Taylor’s Version). After unleashing promo single 🎵 “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)”, she returns with the ‘unfamiliar’ second single, 🎵 “You’re All Over Me (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” featuring fellow Grammy winner, 🎙 Maren Morris. The results are positive without being game changing.
“You’re All Over Me (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” finds Swift collaborating once more with the man that helped make both folklore and 💿 evermore so successful, 🎛 Aaron Dessner. The sound of the record both sounds like her Fearless era, when this song was first written and intended for, as well as this more alternative, folksy folklore/evermore era. Where vocals and her overall performance are concerned, Taylor sings beautifully with ease, never forcing things. Maren Morris joins her on the chorus for the first time on the chorus, and duets with her on select moments the rest of the way. Morris never sings solo, always playing the supportive, harmonizing role to Swift. Ultimately, the results are positive, continuing high quality output from the unstoppable icon. As always, 🎼✍ songwriting is a big selling point, particularly the chorus:
“I lived, and I learned, had you, got burned Held out, and held on God knows, too long, and wasted time Lost tears, swore that I’d get out of here But no amount of freedom gets you clean I’ve still got you all over me.”
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, Taylor Swift doesn’t miss a beat, whether it’s all brand-new material, re-recordings, or unreleased music from the vault. “You’re All Over Me (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” is another welcome addition to her catalogue – it’s well-rounded by all means. The song isn’t game changing or as distinct as the best of the best she’s served up, but, again, definitely welcome music to our ears.
