Scanning the Charts (11/24/21): Taylor Swift dominates both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 with Red (Taylor’s Version).

ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week – the week of Thanksgiving –  I picked out 8 notable observations from the Billboard 200 ,  and 8 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 , with Taylor Swift dominating both charts with the release of Red (Taylor’s Version).

Billboard 200  

It shouldn’t come as a shock, but Taylor Swift debuts at no. 1 with Red (Taylor’s Version).  The numbers for her 10^th no. 1 album are robust – understatement.  Swift knocks Summer Walker ( Still Over It) out of the top spot; she slips to no. 4.

Silk Sonic – Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak – are the bridesmaids on the Billlboard 200 this week.  An Evening with Silk Sonic launches at no. 2.

At no. 3, K-pop collective TWICE launches with Formula of Love: O+T=<3.

Country music standout Jason Aldean earns the final debut in the top 10 this week.  Macon launches respectably at no. 8.

The final top-20 debut on the Billboard 200 arrives courtesy of Money Man.  Blockchain bows at no. 13.

DaBaby cracks the top-50 with his EP, Back on My Baby Jesus Sh!t Again, which launches modestly at no. 44.

Country musician Cody Jinks debuts at no. 79 with his latest album, Mercy.

Billboard Hot 100

Taylor Swift makes history on the Hot 100 as “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” becomes the longest song to hit no. 1 EVER (north of 10 minutes).  Expectedly, numerous songs chart from Red (Taylor’s Version). Swift knocks Adele ( “Easy on Me”) out of the top spot.

Silk Sonic – Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak – sees their  An Evening with Silk Sonic standout, “Smokin Out the Window” rise from no. 8 to no. 5 two weeks in.  “Smokin” isn’t the only action on the Hot 100! “Skate” re-enters the fray at no. 75, while the other newbies from the brief album debut such as “Blast Off” (no. 73) and “Put on a Smile” (no. 78).

Glass Animals sees “Heat Waves” ascend from no. 10 to no. 8 in its 44^th charting week.

Elton John and Dua Lipa are on the rise! “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” ascends from no. 14 to no. 11 in its 11^th charting week.

Juice WRLD earns another posthumous Hot 100 entry with “Already Dead” which launches at no. 20. 

Mariah Carey has re-entered the Hot 100 with her beloved Christmas classic (and former no. 1), “All I Want for Christmas is You.” 

Polo G debuts at no. 49 with “Bad Man (Smooth Criminal).”

ROSALIA cracks the Billboard Hot 100! Assisted by The Weeknd, “La Fama” bows at no. 94.
