Scanning the Charts โ Billboard 200 & Billboard Hot 100 (10/31/20): Taylor Swift returns to no. 1 for an eight week with Folklore.ย
SCANNING THE CHARTS ๐is just what it says it is.ย I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye.ย To reiterate what I said last week (Pop Smoke Returns to No. 1), this column wonโt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that ๐ฉ moving.ย This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations ๐ from the Billboard 200, and FIVE observations ๐ from the Billboard Hot 100, with ๐ Taylor Swift returning to no. 1 with ๐ฟ Folklore for an eighth, nonconsecutive week.

Billboard 200 ๐
๐ญ ๐ Taylor Swift returns to no. 1 with ๐ฟ Folklore for an eighth, nonconsecutive week. According to Keith Caufield of Billboard, it is the first album to SELL a million copies in 2020. Meanwhile, ๐ Pop Smoke slips from no. 1 to no. 2 with his popular posthumous debut album, ๐ฟ Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon.
๐ญ ๐ Tom Petty reenters the Billboard 200 at no. 5 with the reissued edition of his 1994 album, ๐ฟ Wildflowers. ย The only new album to debut within the top 10 is ๐ฟ Resonance, Pt. 1 courtesy of ๐ NCT.
๐ญ Three more new albums bow within the top 20. ๐ BTSโs ๐ฟ Skool Luv Affair lands at no. 12.ย ๐ Eagles ๐ฟ Live from the Forum MMXVIII launches at no. 16.ย ๐ T.I., once a top-five machine, settles for a lukewarm, no. 18 start for ๐ฟ The L.I.B.R.A.ย
๐ญ Further down the Billboard 200, thereโs more fresh blood. ๐ Sturgill Simpson bows at no. 24 with ๐ฟ Cuttinโ Grass, Vol. 1: The Shoppe Sessions, while ๐ Benny the Butcher starts at no. 29 with ๐ฟ Burden of Proof.
๐ญ So, ๐ Matt Berninger (๐ The National) released an album โ ๐ฟ Serpentine Prison. ย It didnโt exactly ignite the charts at no. 161 thoughโฆ
Billboard Hot 100 ๐ย
๐ญ ๐ 24kGoldn and ๐ Iann Dior spend a second week in the top spot of the Hot 100 with ๐ต โMood.โ
๐ญ ๐ Justin Bieber is definitely impacting the Hot 100. ย ๐ต โHolyโ ascends from no. 14 to no. 9 while ๐ต โLonelyโ (with Benny Blanco) launches at no. 14.
๐ญ ๐ Young Bleu, with the help of ๐ Drake, launches at no. 52 with ๐ต โYouโre Mines Still.โ
๐ญ ๐ G-Eazy, assisted by๐ blackbear, debuts at no. 71 with ๐ตโHate the Wayโ.ย Worth noting, โHate the Wayโ marks a return to rap by Eazy following his questionable alternative LP, ๐ฟ Everythingโs Strange Here.
๐ญ Social media star ๐ Larray caused quite a stir with โCancelled,โ which transcends YouTube success and launches on the Hot 100 at no. 80.
