Taylor Swift, Lover [Photo Credit: Taylor Swift]Multi-Grammy winning pop superstar Taylor Swift returns with an infectious, surefire hit single, “ME!” Featuring Panic! At the Disco frontman, Brendon Urie.

“Get ready, get ready, get ready” – It’s ‘Taylor Swift season!’  That’s right, ‘the queen’ has returned to reclaim her throne following nearly a two-year hiatus.  Any time that Swift releases new music it’s not “kind of a big deal,” it’s “DEFINITELY a big deal.” This time, Swift doesn’t return alone, tapping Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendon Urie for the pop gem we all needed, “ME!”

“ME!” commences with sleek harmonized vocals by Taylor Swift (ah, the wonders of the studio), before she jumps right into the first verse. Fueling her fire is the military-styled percussion, which consistently keeps the energy at an all-time high. Sure, Swift shows control and poise on the first verse – she doesn’t exactly come out swinging per se – but there’s always that sense that she’s going to kick into that next gear. Indeed, she does once she reaches the chorus, which is catchy AF and infectious to the nth degree with its nonsensical “he, he, he” and “ooh, ooh, oohs.”

Brendon Urie enters the mix on the second verse, providing brilliant contrast to Swift. As awesome as Urie sounds, Taylor Swift smartly performs portions of the second verse, so she’s not upstaged by one of the most gifted vocalists in the music industry.  The chemistry between the two is notable, as they join forces on the pre-chorus (Urie sounds louder in the mix), before blessing listeners with ultra-sunny chorus. On the bridge section, Swift’s vocals are mixed louder, as is the case heading towards the dynamic closing of “ME!”

Final Thoughts

So, how does the new Taylor Swift single stack up? If “Look What You Made Me Do” drew mixed reactions because it was so starkly different (the epic video eclipsed the song IMO), “ME!” Isn’t nearly as polarizing. Honestly, “ME!” Is a blast that you’ll be sure to be blasting all summer long.  Swift and Brendon Urie definitely have the personalities to sell this irresistibly fun record, intact with all the schmaltzy, tongue-in-cheek goodness.  From a vocal perspective, Urie is the more dynamic singer (he would be against most), but, Swift and her producers make the pairing with such a strong vocalist work superbly.
