Scanning the Charts β Billboard 200 & Hot 100 (1/2/21): Taylor Swift remains no. 1, holding off Paul McCartney.
SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week (Taylor Swift Dominant For the 2nd Time in 2020), this column wonβt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that moving. This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations
from the Billboard 200
, and THREE observations
from the Billboard Hot 100
, with
Taylor Swift holding off
Paul McCartney to retain the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.
Billboard 200
Continuing her dominance in 2020,
Taylor Swift holds on to the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with
Evermore. The album moves another 169,000 units per Keith Caulfield of Billboard. Sounds like Swiftβs second album has already earned gold certification to me!
Even though Taylor Swift was able to hold off
Paul McCartney from the top spot on the Billboard 200 (he settles for no. 2),
McCartney III does manage to bow atop the Top Album Sales Chart with the majority of its units being sales. Thatβs rare for many albums these days, though veteran acts tend sell more than earn streams.
Eminem experiences an expected resurgence (ascends to no. 3) thanks to the deluxe edition of his
Music to Be Murdered By (
Music to Be Murdered By: Side B).
Lil Durk debuts at no. 46 with
The Voice.
Tori Kelly sneaks onto the Billboard 200 with
A Tori Kelly Christmas at no. 192.
Billboard Hot 100
Mariah Carey ascends from no. 2 to no. 1 on the Hot 100 with her beloved Christmas classic,
βAll I Want for Christmas is You.β
Taylor Swift sees her second no. 1 of the year,
βWillow,β free fall from no. 1 to no. 38 in its second week. Ouch!
Ed Sheeran launches at no. 59 with
βAfterglowβ.
