Tawnted (Jonathan Armswood) shines on the short but utterly sweet and relatable single about putting on a façade, “It’s Fine, I’m Fine.”
“We pretend that we’re all okay / Gotta go to some job I hate / … Never tell you just how I feel…” So many of us are just like 🎙 Tawnted (Jonathan Armswood) – we ‘bottle up’ how we truly feel and put on a façade. On 🎵 “It’s Fine, I’m Fine”, Armswood really is NOT okay. That said, on this short but sweet single, which runs just past the two-minute mark, his pain is our listening pleasure.
“It’s Fine, I’m Fine” benefits from its brevity, simplicity, and relatability. The guitar accompaniment is a nice touch, with the recurring riff easily getting stuck in one’s head. Melodically, the lines are rhythmic, as Tawnted shares the things he hides to put on this façade. There are some awesome lyrical moments, including that f-bomb he slides in, as well as the chorus: “It’s fine, I’m fine / All right, all right / I’ll fake fine and just keep it on the inside.” Also, shout out the second verse where Armswood references a relationship that got serious (he gave him a key 🔑), yet ultimately, went south, and he had to kick him to the curb. Finally, can’t neglect to compliment his voice, which has depth; he’s expressive without ever breaking a sweat. The nonchalant approach fits perfectly with the overall theme.
Final Thoughts 💭
Far too often, we all “Fake fine and just keep it on the inside.” Is it healthy? No, but as a person who often puts on a façade, I totally relate to 🎵 “It’s Fine, I’m Fine”. Tawnted is definitely an artist that more people need to be aware of. Yes, he’s a great addition to the growing LGBTQ+ 🏳️🌈 music community but his music can be enjoyed by all, PERIOD. Dope single.
