Tate McRae, "r u ok" [📷 : RCA]Following a turbulent relationship, Tate McRae has successfully moved on but questions her ex’s emotional state on the relatable, “r u ok.”

Rising Canadian pop singer 🎙 Tate McRae just wants to know one thing: 🎵 “r u ok.” Hmm, wonder why she’s asking such a question? McRae commences her new single with the chorus, which first poses that question.  On the same chorus where the 17-year-old asks that question, we see that it’s tied to the universal topic of love.  “Are you okay? / ‘Cause you’re the one who needed space / And finally I’m doing fine / You’d rather see me cry-y-y.” Oh those ‘matters of the heart!’

Following the chorus, we get into the ‘meat and potatoes’ of what Tate McRae is saying.  Basically, per McRae, her ex-boyfriend had some issues properly loving.  His issues broke her down when they were an item, and ultimately destroyed the relationship.  “You ripped my heart right from my mouth,” she sings on the first verse, continuing, “And then I had to go and pick it up / And play it like I didn’t give a fuck.” Wow! After things ended, on the second verse, she highlights everything he did to win her back, while also acknowledging how he messed things up, and how his missteps were unforgivable to her.  She’s moved on, hence why she’s states “and I’m finally doing fine,” but he’s clearly not.

Final Thoughts 💭

Clearly, Tate McRae has a nice, relatable narrative going on with “r u ok.” This is a record that should not only appeal to fans Tate’s age, but perhaps those with a few more years on her as well.  It’s definitely enjoyable, pretty straightforward, and the backdrop by 🎙 Frequency and 🎙 Lowell is none too shabby.  No, it’s not the second coming but it’s definitely worth spinning by all means.
