“I’ve been next to you all night and still don’t know what you’re about.” Ooh-wee! Tate McRae is not saying too much, but the guy pursuing her is. He seems to be doing far too much, or so our pop star describes on “greedy.”  “Greedy” is the second track from her breakout, 2023 sophomore album, THINK LATER.  In the second verse, she asserts, “I see you eyein’ me down, but you’ll never know much past my name / Or how I’m runnin’ this room around and that I’m half your age.” Oh, damn!

McRae penned “greedy” with Amy Allen, Ryan Tedder, Jasper Harris, and Grant. Tedder, Harris, and Grant produced it. Although brief with a runtime just over two minutes, Tate puts her foot into it with a playful vocal performance, bringing the rhythmic, tuneful melodies to life. Anchored by a percussive groove, “Greedy” is an infectious, irresistible bop.  The crème de la crème is the greedy chorus:

“I would want myself

Baby, please believe me

I’ll put your through hell

Just to know me, yeah, yeah

So sure of yourself

Baby, don’t get greedy

That shit won’t end well

(No, it won’t) End well.”

Is it any surprise that “greedy” reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America? Nope. Gen-Z pop banger!
