Ascending pop artist Tate McRae shines once more on โexes,โ the second single from her sophomore album, THINK LATER.ย
โKisses to my exes who donโt give a shit ๐ฉ about me,โ Gen-Z pop singer ๐๏ธ Tate McRae asserts in the chorus of ๐ต โexesโ.ย McRae adds, โBut I still keep their number and their necklace, kisses to my exes.โ Oh, snap ๐ซฐ! โExesโ follows McRaeโs highest charting single to date, ๐ต โGreedyโ.ย Both songs appear on McRaeโs sophomore album, ๐ฟ THINK LATER (arrives December 8, 2023). โExesโ was written by Tate alongside producers ๐ผ โ ๐๏ธ Ryan Tedder and Tyler Spry. The results = another positive musical step forward for an ascending pop artist.
McRae admits she has issues when it comes to relationships.ย In the first verse, she blames her pride, singing, โTryna burn down every damn bridge ๐ any time we can.โย In the second verse, she states, โI donโt ever know what I want, but thatโs what you want,โ later adding, โBreakinโ it all before it starts, makinโ it all up in my head.โ The transparency, which continues on into the pre-chorus, and of course, the centerpiece, the chorus, is admirable. Of course, beyond transparency, โexesโ is an enjoyable pop joint under three minutes in duration.ย The backdrop is slick, modern, and rhythmic โ fitting for a young artist.ย Tate McRae serves up a gimmicky performance, one thatโs entertaining. While exes can change your life, ๐ต โexesโ (the song) likely wonโt. Still, itโs a sweet little Gen-Z earworm ๐.
