Tate McRae, exes [📷: RCA]Ascending pop artist Tate McRae shines once more on “exes,” the second single from her sophomore album, THINK LATER.

“Kisses to my exes who don’t give a shit 💩 about me,” Gen-Z pop singer 🎙️ Tate McRae asserts in the chorus of 🎵 “exes”.  McRae adds, “But I still keep their number and their necklace, kisses to my exes.” Oh, snap 🫰! “Exes” follows McRae’s highest charting single to date, 🎵 “Greedy”.  Both songs appear on McRae’s sophomore album, 💿 THINK LATER (arrives December 8, 2023). “Exes” was written by Tate alongside producers 🎼 ✍ 🎛️ Ryan Tedder and Tyler Spry. The results = another positive musical step forward for an ascending pop artist.

Tate McRae, THINK LATER [📷: RCA]McRae admits she has issues when it comes to relationships.  In the first verse, she blames her pride, singing, “Tryna burn down every damn bridge 🌉 any time we can.”  In the second verse, she states, “I don’t ever know what I want, but that’s what you want,” later adding, “Breakin’ it all before it starts, makin’ it all up in my head.” The transparency, which continues on into the pre-chorus, and of course, the centerpiece, the chorus, is admirable. Of course, beyond transparency, “exes” is an enjoyable pop joint under three minutes in duration.  The backdrop is slick, modern, and rhythmic – fitting for a young artist.  Tate McRae serves up a gimmicky performance, one that’s entertaining. While exes can change your life, 🎵 “exes” (the song) likely won’t. Still, it’s a sweet little Gen-Z earworm 😉.
