Let the church say yes! I repeat, Let the church say yes! Gospel singer 🎙 Tasha Cobbs Leonard is back with a new inspirational single, 🎵 “Gotta Believe”.  Sure, gospel music most appeals to people of faith, but even if you don’t consider church and faith your jam, well, the messages can still uplift.  Anyways, Cobbs Leonard keeps things brief on “Gotta Believe.” Even so, you best believe that this sub-three-minute record is potent and of course, incredibly spiritual, nonetheless.

“I gotta believe / There is goodness around the corner / And something better is in store for me.” Amen! Tasha Cobbs Leonard gives listeners exactly what they need – encouragement.  The big takeaway from this record is about being encouraged, particularly when things aren’t going well.  Cobbs Leonard, who also wrote the song, wants everyone to know that ‘life happens’ (“There’s a reason for all these tears”) but eventually, there’ll be resolution (“There’s an answer to these prayers”).  One of the most powerful, moving lyrics is when Tasha sings on the chorus, “There’s a rainbow behind the clouds / The sun is bursting out.” Again, even if you aren’t a person of immense faith, these prudent words should move you.  Besides the thoughtful lyricism and fine vocals by Tasha, the sound of the record, the production (by 🎛 Kenneth Leonard, Jr.) is great.  Excellent touches include choral vocals, horns, keys, and the standard, contemporary gospel sound palette.

Final Thoughts 💭

All in all, Tasha Cobbs Leonard ‘gets the job done’ on “Gotta Believe.” That job, of course, is encouraging and uplifting on this short but prudent, spiritually driven number.  All boxes are checked off: Awesome vocals, moving lyrics, and alluring, contemporary gospel production.
