Tank, Nothing On | Midnight Heat

“Just make sure when I get there you’re naked.” Oh, snap ! Ah, bring on Midnight Heat ! Wait – it is not usually hot at midnight! Well, it is steaming hot at midnight when it comes to this naughty, innuendo and sex-laden column featuring songs intended for nighttime. Yeah, we are talking about that after dark, bedroom boom $hi†, ya dig? These unapologetic records often raises both eyebrows and temperature alike. Woo! In the 20^th edition of Midnight Heat (2023), we explore the naughty, sexy vibes behind, “Nothing On” by Tank. 

Tank (Durrell Babbs) is known for writing and performing a steamy brand of music – an understatement.  Furthermore, the R&B musician is incredibly easy on the eyes .  So, singing about sex, and bringing ample sex appeal is one hell of a combination! Tank is acting hellishly on “Nothing On” where his horniness is through the roof.  Still, even given his hellish ways, the result is a heavenly , five-minute-plus slow jam from his 2017 album, appropriated titled, SAVAGE.  And yes, just in case you were wondering, SAVAGE is the same album with another sexed-up gem, “When We” (“When we, f#ck”).

The sound of “Nothing On” gives away the sexual modus operandi – lethargic tempo, sensual pianos, a grown-n-sexy vibe. In the first verse, Tank reveals his intentions, asserting, “Undo you ponytail / Let all that fall down / Told you I’m gon’ be there / To beat it all down.” By beat, of course, Babbs is referring to what he’s going to do that kitty cat… If more evidence is needed, look no further than the second verse, where he advises, “Hope you got plenty towels / Cuz I’m ‘bout to soak you out.” Woo! With her body being a “masterpiece,” it is no wonder he encourages in the chorus, “Don’t have nothing on.” Ultimately, “I want to see what I came for / Soon as I hit the door / Don’t have nothing on.” That is some freaky sugar honey iced tea right there Tank, and we’re here for it.  “Nothing On” – tailor made for that Midnight Heat .
