Grammy-nominated Canadian R&B artist Tamia keeps its classy and uplifting on her new, love-centric single, “Deeper.”
Picture it – the date is June 9, 2015. A Grammy-nominated Canadian R&B artist by the name of Tamia returns with her first album for a major label in 11 years, Love Life. Now, more than three years later, said Canadian R&B artist and wife of former NBA star Grant Hill, returns with a new single, “Deeper.”
“I have loved and I have lost / Broken rivers I have crossed / I have made it through the flames / Like a diamond, I’ve been shaped / A thousand times again.” Expectedly on the ballad, Tamia sings about her favorite topic – love. Good choice – who doesn’t like songs about love? After experiencing the ups and the downs of love, she wants to conquer it and take things to the next level. The best example of this love-conqueror’s spirit arrives on the thoughtful, uplifting chorus.
“Now I can love deeper / I wanna love harder / So love like you’ve never been hurt / ‘Cause love can change the world / Now let’s go higher / Together we stronger / So love like you’ve never been hurt / ‘Cause love can change the world.”
The chorus actually percolates with its successful iterations. The intensity picks up more following the second verse, and reaches the ‘high watermark’ post-bridge. Speaking of the bridge, Tamia sounds absolutely stunning as she asserts, “I wanna feel real love.”
Final Thoughts
“Deeper” is a good ole, old-fashioned adult contemporary R&B ballad at its best. Tamia is 43 years old, but definitely sounds much younger vocally. While “Deeper” gets ‘big,’ it’s never overblown – Tamia showcases incredible vocal control, while the production is tasteful and never overindulgent or ‘too much.’ “Deeper” isn’t the type of record that’ll likely appeal to a younger audience, but for R&B lovers who embrace their big ballads and are totally fine with their music eschewing f-bombs, well, “Deeper” is ‘the fix.’
