Ah, it’s time to get cozy and cover up! In COVERS, we highlight a musician or band covering songs by another musician (likely a popular musician). COVERS focuses solely on the musician who covers.  It is open to established musicians and musicians who may not be as well-known. In the 30th edition of COVERS (2024), Syzz and Nora Van Elken deliver a compelling rendition of “Disco Inferno” originally performed by The Trammps.

In the hands of Dutch duo Syzz and Nora Van Elken, “Disco Inferno” is brief – two minutes and ¢hange – but potent. Syzz and Van Elken deliver a funky, sickening modern reproduction of The Trammps’ beloved disco classic. The musical cues and aesthetic that made the original awesome remain intact. The difference? The sounds are updated for the 21st century, baby!

sleeping“Disco Inferno” does not require deep analysis. Perhaps it is cliché to say but the music speaks for itself. This is an energetic record that brings the enthusiasm of the oldie to a brand-new generation. It is fresh. The vocals are vibrant – commanding, gritty, and soulful. The DJs/producers’ tweaks with the beats are on point.  Most importantly, “Disco Inferno” makes you wanna throw yo’ hands in the air and dance your booty off in the discotheque – or club, or home…
