āYou werenāt the boy I thought I knewā¦You were the topic of my lunch timesā¦ [Iād] get upset when you didnāt text back.āĀ The first verse of the soulful āTeenage Fantasyā accurately covers the plight of teenage love, sigh. Rising British R&B artist Jorja Smith wrote āTeenage Fantasyā when was 16.

āYou call me queen / Youāre in ripped jeans / And you just pulled up to a love song.āĀ On āTeenager in Love,ā 19-year old Madison Beer is infatuated to the nth degree.Ā Everything about her suitor is perfect on this vintage sounding pop number, exemplified on the memorable chorus.

3 & 4. Khalid, āAmerican Teenā &ā8TEENā
American TeenĀ ā¢ RCA ā¢ 2017
āAmerican TeenāĀ opens American TeenĀ bubbly and exuberant in sound.Ā The single borrows from 80s pop and urban cues as its basis. Set in major key, the optimism is formidable.Ā Vocally, while Khalid is firmly invested, without forcing things. Lyrically, the vibes are positive, as Khalid explores life and the great opportunities ahead of him.
āāCause this is our year So wake me up in the Spring While Iām high off my American dream We donāt always say what we mean Itās the life of an American teen.ā
Ultimately, the opener sets the tone for the album. ā8TEENā is a welcome change of pace for Khalid, following a trio of brokenhearted songs on American Teen. This feels like a companion cut to the aforementioned title track, embracing a similar overall sound.Ā On the bright, synth-driven ā8TEEN,ā he reflects on being youngĀ and dumb.Ā The signature line comes on the chorus: āSo, letās do all the stupid shit that young kids do.ā

6. Infinite bisous, āTeen Sexā
W/ Love ā¢Ā tasty morsels ā¢Ā 2017
Alternative musician Infinite bisous leaves little to the imagination in regards to the title of his entry onto this list, āTeen Sex.ā Ā Even though the title suggests explicitness in terms of, well coitus, thatās not particularly the case lyrically.
The first verse looks a little something like this:
āDownstairs thereās a party, Wonāt you stay for me? Weāre safe for the moment, Love for you.ā
The chorus simply reiterates the title, while verse two, similar to the first, is much more innocent and simple than expected.Ā Ultimately, the phrase āteenage sexā is uttered 16 times.Ā Thatās a lot of sex. Instrumentally, the vibe is indeed sexy.
7. Drake, āTeenage Feverā
More LifeĀ ā¢Ā OVO Sound ā¢Ā 2017
āI met someone new last night and we kicked it / And Iām going back there tonight / And you know whatās on my mind, this time.ā āTeenage Feverā represents one of Drakeās smoother moments on his playlist-album, More Life.Ā Drizzy sings about his feelings about her.Ā āOut of body / Thatās just how I feel when Iām around you, shawty.ā Clearly, heās infatuated, feeling āsome type of wayā to the point he sings, āThis shit feels like teenage fever.ā
8. Blink-182, āTeenage Satellitesā
CaliforniaĀ ā¢ BMG Rights Management ā¢Ā 2016
Blink-182 gets into the teenage action with the cleverly-penned āTeenage Satellites.ā Ā While it is clever, itās also quite familiar.
āWe are a slow descent Forgotten astronauts We are an avalanche Weāre just an afterthoughtā
What makes āTeenage Satellitesā familiar isnāt the song itself, but the fact that the teenage plight is inspiration once again.Ā In other words, this is an enjoyable, successful number that probably wonāt boggle many minds.

The bridge confirms that the battle is social:
āIāll let you in on something big I am not a white teeth teen I tried to join but never did The way they are, the way they seem is something else, itās in the blood Their molars blinking like lights, in the underpass where we all sit And do nothing and love it.ā
11. Neon Trees, āTeenage Soundsā
Picture ShowĀ ā¢ Mercury ā¢Ā 2012
āToo all the cool kids on my block / Whereās the original thought.ā Sigh, before being a āTeenager in Loveā, Neon Trees, specifically frontman Tyler Glenn, were making āTeenage Sounds.ā āTeenage Soundsā is the second song on the bandās sophomore album, Picture Show, an LP that features one of their most popular hits, āEverybody Talks.āĀ Donāt get it twisted though ā āTeenage Soundsā is a bop!Ā Glenn is fed up, asserting on the second verse, āIām sick of always operating out of fear / Iām sick of being called a fag because Iām queer.ā Preach on T.G.!
āOh yeah you never heard us Donāt ever try to turn us down Weāre making all the noise Weāre making teenage sounds Itās the same old song and dance Weāre sick of everybody trying to be famous.ā

āLetās go all the way tonight / No regrets, just love / We can dance until we die / You and I, weāll be young forever.ā Katy Perry opened her third studio album (second pop album), Teenage Dream with a bang.Ā To describe title track āTeenage Dreamā as merely a good opening cut would be an understatement. Dr. Luke delivers strong production, while Perry compels with her breathy vocals on the verses, and assertive, powerful pipes on the catchy chorus. āTeenage Dreamā is the exemplification of the type of pop track that suits Perry perfectly.
āYou make me feel like Iām living a teenage dream The way you turn me on I canāt sleep Letās run away and donāt ever look back Donāt ever look back My heart stops when you look at me Just one touch Now baby, I believe this is real So take a change and donāt ever look back Donāt ever look back.ā

13. Alicia Keys, āTeenage Love Affairā
As I Am ā¢Ā RCA ā¢Ā 2007
āAnother secret meeting / On the fifth-floor staircase / Iām gonna give you this letter / Of all the things I canāt say.ā āTeenage Love Affairā as among the gems from As I Am, the third studio album (fourth overall) by Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Alicia Keys.Ā Although among the elites, āTeenage Love Affairā didnāt quite achieve the same glory as āSuperwomanā, āNo One,ā or āLike Youāll Never See Me Again.ā Nonetheless, the āfeelsā ā the nostalgic, soulful vibe ā is irresistible.Ā Keys is in love, rendezvousing with the man of her dreams.
āNothing really matters I donāt really care What nobody tell me Iām gonna be here Itās a matter of extreme of importance My first teenage love affair.ā
14. My Chemical Romance, āTeenagersā
The Black Parade ā¢Ā Reprise ā¢ 2006
āAll teenagers scare the living shit out of me.ā Ah, a classic, iconic line from one of the best songs from 00s standouts, My Chemical Romance. After growing exponentially in popularity following āHelenaā (Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge), The Black Parade was definitely a big deal.Ā Besides āTeenagers,ā The Black Parade features gems such as āWelcome to the Black Paradeā and personal favorite, āCancerā (not the godawful disease of course).Ā Essentially, Gerard Way captures the disgruntled teenager to perfection.
āTheyāre gonna clean up your looks With all the lies in the books To make a citizen out of you Because they sleep with a gun And keep an eye on you, son So they can watch all the things you do.ā
15. Marilyn Manson, āDisposable Teensā
Holy WoodĀ ā¢ Interscope ā¢ 2000
āYou said you wanted evolution / The ape was a great big hit / You say you want a revolution man / And I say that youāre full of shit.ā Hmmā¦ For the 15thsong on this playlist, āDisposable Teensā, two mass murderers, Columbine High School perpetrators Eric Harris andĀ Dylan Klebold serve as the inspiration. Musical influence was questioned in regards to the Columbine massacre with Marilyn Manson being the chief artist blamed. While ultimately it was myth, Manson responded with a song that Loudwire included in its list of Disturbing Songs People Love.Ā Author Graham Hartmann asserts that Manson was ālikely commenting on the events aftermath, along with referencing George Orwellās āNineteen Eighty-Four.āā Thereās nothing āwarm and fuzzyā about āDisposable Teens.ā
āI want to thank you mom I want to thank you dad For bringing this fucking world To a bitter end I never really hated the one true God But the God of the people I hated.ā

16. Nirvana, āSmells Like Teen Spiritā
NevermindĀ ā¢Ā Geffen ā¢ 1991
āTeenage Dreamā by Katy Perry, āTeenagersā by My Chemical Romance, and evenĀ āDisposable Teensā by Marilyn Manson are incredibly popular teen songs.Ā But perhaps the most famous of them all, or at least the most iconic, comes courtesy of Kurt Cobain and Seattle grunge band, Nirvana.Ā āSmells Like Teen Spiritā is undoubtedly the bandās crowning achievement, and still resonates to this day. Itās an example of a transcendent, timeless record ā something thatās often strived for but rarely attained.Ā Besides the assertive, gritty vocals by Cobain, itās the clever lyrics that take āSmells Like Teen Spiritā to the next level.
āWith the lights out, itās less dangerous Here we are now, entertain us I feel stupid and contagious Here we are now, entertain us A mulatto, an Albino A mosquito, my libido, yeah.ā
