Ascending pop duo Surfaces shines once more on their enjoyable, love-centric, and well-rounded single, “Wave of You.”
One hit song can build some serious momentum for a lucrative career – remember that. For pop duo 🎙 Surfaces, their 2019 gem 🎵 “Sunday Best” (💿 Where the Light Is), definitely elevated their profile. How could it not, it was pretty sweet and definitely chill. The duo comprised of 🎙 Forrest Frank and 🎙 Colin Padalecki are back with a brand-new single, 🎵 “Wave of You” that is definitely worth checking out and adding to your listening rotation, at least IMO! As to be expected, both members of the collective handle the songwriting and the production.
There are plenty of things to praise about Surfaces’ “Wave of You.” For one, I adore the warmth of the sound from the very beginning. The intro, expectedly, sets the tone. Likewise, as we get into the song, I heart the beautiful, warm vocals; definitely ear catching. This is the product of a mix of a solid, well-rounded vocal performance as well as strong vocal production. Adding to the allure are the vocal harmonies, which add to the colorful aesthetic. Beginning on the second half of the first verse, we begin adding those slick, rhythmic drums. By the chorus, we get the full complement of those ‘hip-hop oriented’ drums which really feel out the production. Speaking of the chorus, it’s quite catchy and hella appealing – definitely the centerpiece of “Wave of You”:
“I think I’m caught up in the way I feel ‘bout you I don’t know how I can be so drawn into you I think I’m fallin’ in deep I think I’m caught up in a wave of you, of you, mm.”
That said, the bridge section is pretty sweet as well, providing a slight bit of contrast and amping up a hint of a punk given the assertive approach to the vocals.
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, Surfaces ‘come through’ on “Wave of You.” The record checks off the boxes as far as production, performance, and songwriting. While “Wave of You” won’t supplant Surfaces’ ‘ace in the hole,’ “Sunday Best”, it’s another welcome addition to their growing musical collection.
