If nothing else, the $uicideBoy$ and Travis Barker collaborative single, “nothingleftnothingleft” is loud, intense, and chocked-full of energy.
Some musical collaborations naturally pique your interest, selling themselves without the need for promo. That is the case when $uicideBoy$ and Travis Barker join forces. On paper, the energy from that combination of musicians sounds almost ‘too hot to handle.’ Think about it – Barker handling the beats, and $crim and Ruby Da Cherry holding down the rhymes. Indeed, the fruits of their labor, “nothingleftnothingleft” is something else, whatever it might be…
$uicideBoy$ are known for using various identities throughout their music. On this particular song, we get Norman Atomic (Ruby Da Cherry) and Anthony Mars ($crim). Norman Atomic sets the tone, turned all the way-up with screamed vocals on the first verse. “Suicide, suicide, let’s all commit suicide,” he asserts, continuing, “End the human race just like the dinosaurs, I can’t decide.” Maybe his most clever lyric follows, making reference to the ‘Revolutionary suicide’ that occurred at Jonestown (“Would you rather drink the punch or do you wanna burn alive?”). As for Mars, he’s also disturbingly death-driven on the second verse, particularly references to crucifixion:
“Nails in my hand, nails in my feet
Crucify me, crucify me
Penetrate my ribs with the blade
Call on the Grays, then let us pray.”
As compelling (and noisy) as the verses are, the crème de la crème arrives on the high-energy, hard-rocking, totally unapologetic chorus, performed by both.
“War, power, sickness, death
Famine, terror, toxic sex
Hate, fear, greed, stress
Fire, ashes, nothing left.”
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, “nothingleftnothingleft” is quite intriguing. It’s noisy, brash, and lacks what could be characterized as a smooth melody, yet, the intensity is totally sick, period. The collaborative project between $uicideBoy$ and Travis Barker is sure to be L-O-U-D to the nth degree.
