Louisiana rap duo $uicideBoy$ exhibit more vulnerability on “Meet Mr. NICEGUY,” the second single from mixtape ‘I Want to Die in New Orleans.’
Prior to the arrival of their new mixtape, I Want to Die in New Orleans, unapologetic rap duo $uicideBoy$ dropped a formidable banger with “Carrollton”. Clearly, neither $crim or Ruby da Cherry gave a f**k, unleashing grimy, hard-nosed rhymes with production to match. Once more, in advance of I Want to Die in New Orleans, $crim (as ANTHONY MARS) and Ruby da Cherry (as NORMAN ATOMIC), drop another single, “Meet Mr. NICEGUY.” Notably, it is a more pop-rap oriented affair.
If “Carrollton” was rough around the edges, “Meet Mr. NICEGUY” is more ‘refined’ – contextually speaking. The f-bombs still fly freely, and despite a more melodic approach, $uicideBoy$ still maintain some edge. For NORMAN ATOMIC, he dabbles in relationship issues, asking at one point, “Where the f**k what I when this relationship dried?” ANTHONY MARS confirms how deep the pain he feels is, referencing depression, and potentially more troubling, suicide. Interestingly, on the second verse, MARS contrasts ATOMIC’s first verse by focusing more on coping with life’s hardships with drugs. He attempts to atone for loneliness from the absence of family “just to numb up.” The depressing joint ends with the hook, which sums up how crappy things are for the boy$.
“Suicide been on my mind
Pour my heart on the concrete every f**king time.”
Final Thoughts
Once again, $uicideBoys$ deliver a worthwhile listen with “Meet Mr. NICEGUY.” The vulnerability exhibited by $crim and Ruby da Cherry is a welcome contrast, even if they remain ‘rough around the edges,’ expressing their emotions vulgarly. While “Meet Mr. NICEGUY” sticks, it’s not quite as ‘potent’ as “Carrollton,” though still a nice addition to their collection.
